ObamaCare Aided by Big Doses of Media Spin

The end of Congress’s long debate over ObamaCare could be near, as the President pushes for a final vote this week before his Asia trip, and House Democrats want a resolution before next week’s Easter break. Yet whether or not liberals’ dreams are ultimately realized, they have had a huge advantage throughout the process. Over the past twelve months, journalists have continually stacked the deck in favor of a big government takeover of health care. A review of the worst spin: ■ On March 1, 2009, previewing Obama’s first White House meeting on health care, ABC’s Dr. Tim Johnson championed...

Victor Davis Hanson: The Death of the ‘Iran Won’ Myth

The Death of the ‘Iran Won’ MythIn the Left’s eyes, Iran was the greatest beneficiary of the Iraq War. Let’s look at the reality.   Did the fall of Saddam Hussein and the violent birth of Iraqi democracy really empower Iran? That conventional wisdom might have been true in the shorter term during the chaotic Iraqi insurrection, but it was never an accurate assessment over the longer haul — as we are beginning to see, nearly seven years after the Iraq War began. In the last twelve months, mass civil disobedience has spread throughout Iran, most notably when nearly a...

NEW YORK (Reuters) – American International Group Inc (AIG.N) reported a quarterly loss of $8.9 billion on Friday, hurt by charges related to U.S. loan payback, asset divestments and higher loss reserves. AIG, in a regulatory filing, warned that it may need additional U.S. government support, as it did last fall. But it also said it will have adequate liquidity to "finance and operate AIG's businesses and continue as a going concern for at least the next twelve months." AIG shares were down 8.4 percent in premarket trading.

Marginal Impacts (Do we really need to spend stimulus money for High-speed rail?)

High-speed rail has emerged as the Obama administration’s signature transportation initiative. While advocates hail the project as a long-overdue commitment to the nation’s passenger-rail infrastructure, in reality it reflects a remarkable marginalization of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) at a time when bold federal leadership is crucial. The administration has chosen to elevate an expensive program targeted at an extraordinarily narrow segment of the traveling public over programs that could provide meaningful relief to tens of millions of travelers on a daily basis. The last twelve months have shown convincingly that transportation issues can’t compete with signature Obama initiatives...

Obama's Strike Three: The Iranian Bomb(Am afradi it will really be strike 3 on America, not Zer0)

Three strikes and you're out. Obama has blown two so far, and he's got one chance left when it comes to national security. What will happen if in the next twelve months or so the suicide-preaching fanatics of Tehran explode a nuclear bomb, as they obviously are dead-set on doing? What will happen if Israel tries a preemptive strike? What if the Saudis, Egyptians, and Gulf States then imported a Sunni bomb from Pakistan? All those countries are unstable and have sizable radical martyrdom groups trying to overthrow their regimes. If a nuclear Iran led a Shiite Axis with Syria,...

Where Will US Job Growth Come From? Economics / Employment Jan 27, 2010 - 09:27 AM By: James Quinn Despite the Federal Reserve’s extraordinary printing and the U.S. Government’s extraordinary spending measures during the last twelve months, it looks like the only job categories with growth potential are printing press operator, ditch diggers, ditch fillers, whatever they call the guys handing out trillions in government largesse, Treasury Department comedians tickling Chinese funny bones by saying they favor a strong U.S. dollar and people installing Stimulus signs at highway projects. The signs are about taking credit. An acquaintance fairly high up...

Hillsdale College Professor Paul Rahe @ BigGovernment – "George W. Bush Revisited"

He left office a year ago today. He has maintained a dignified silence in the last twelve months — even though his successor denounces him in almost every speech and acts as if he is still running against the man. I reviewed President Obama’s disastrous first year on Saturday. Today, I ask, “What, in retrospect, should we think of George W. Bush?” The first thing that needs to be said is that he meant well. He is not a vindictive man, and he sought to put behind him the controversies and turmoil of the Clinton years. He thought that his...

Has Obama Become Radioactive? … Democratic Party is now on the verge of implosion

If you're looking to analyze Barack Obama's first year in office, look no further than yesterday's special election in the Bay State. It’s symbolic -- and very telling -- that one year after Obama’s inauguration, the Democratic candidate, Martha Coakley, was beaten by newcomer populist Scott Brown, losing Ted Kennedy's seat in a traditionally blue stronghold. More notably: twelve months after Obama was sworn into the office of the president and a sea of blue swept Washington, the Democratic Party is now on the verge of implosion.

President Will Hurt Coakley’s Chances

"Twelve months ago, if President Obama made a trip to campaign for a candidate it may have helped. The president has hurt his most loyal supporters most, which is why in the most liberal states like Massachusetts, there is a fear that republicans will start winning. Remember in 2008 when John McCain did not want President Bush on the campaign trail?"
