WASHINGTON — In a cover story on global warming titled "You Idiots!" Rolling Stone named U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe as one of the "planet's worst enemies.'' The Oklahoma Republican took issue. He says Rolling Stone should have made him No. 1 in its global warming story. "My first response was I should have been No. 1, not No. 7," said Inhofe, perhaps the most vocal global-warming skeptic in Congress. "I am serious about that. I have spent now literally years on this thing, and it has been a long, involved thing.'' Although the magazine did not actually rank its "Climate...

The Porn Star as Leftist Hero

The left’s unyielding battle against repression and conservatism in general causes them to forge strange alliances. Thirty years ago feminists condemned pornography. Two of the movement’s most famous luminaries even created an ordinance seeking to define it as a violation of female civil rights. What a difference a new millennium makes. Many feminists are now openly in favor of porn and have tried to carve out portions of it as “political and woman-owned.” At this pace it won’t be long before they begin championing XXX actresses as important agents of social change. Oh, my apologies, they already have. Rolling Stone...

"Obama is holding us hostage to Wall Street"

Okay, so President Obama didn't run for office to help out a bunch of fat cat bankers on Wall Street - or so he said on CBS's "60 Minutes" show Sunday night. But maybe it didn't seem like such a bad idea once the election was over. Anyway, the net effect of his administration's actions since then - all nicely documented in the latest Rolling Stone dispatch from the choleric Matt Taibbi - was an immense helping out of fat cat bankers on Wall Street at the expense of a lot of American citizens who work elsewhere, if they are...

Taibbi: Sorry Mainstream Journalists, I Don't Have To Be Two-Sided Like You Guys Do

Matt Taibbi gave a very good interview on CNN this afternoon, discussing his recent Rolling Stone piece on Obama's sellout. One of the more interesting points came when Taibbi was asked about some criticism from Andrew Ross Sorkin. Taibbi's response, basically: sorry maisntream jouranlists, I don't have to be evenhanded. Good answer. Video at site

Rolling Stone contributing editor Matt Taibbi has gained a reputation for investigating Wall Street’s systemic abuses of power (for examples you can see Daily Reckoning posts on his Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers Autopsy and his description of how the US Economic Team is Packed With Wall Street Insiders). Recently Taibbi appeared on the Colbert [...]Taibbi on Wall Street: One Ponzi Scheme After the Other originally appeared in the Daily Reckoning. Matt Taibbi Successfully Exposes The Disintegration And Crackup Of The Left

Matt Taibbi's latest article for Rolling Stone is all about how Obama ran as a progressive, but quickly sold out to Wall Street, bringing back all the old deregulation-happy "Rubinites" from the Clinton administration. Like a lot of Taibbi's stuff, there were some reaches in logic in rhetoric. Tim Fernholz of the liberal publication The American Prospect slammed the piece, saying it was filled with inaccuracies, calling it a "nightmare of a story." We're not interested in in adjudicating the Fernholz vs. Taibbi battle. Felix Salmon can handle that. But what Taibbi has done -- and this is truly impressive...

The American Prospect Savages Matt Taibbi For Savaging Obama

American Prospect, the left-leaning political magazine, doesn't like Matt Taibbi's latest Rolling Stone piece slamming the Obama administration's economic sell-out, calling it a "nightmare of a story:" Tim Fernholz: The piece is a factual mess, a conspiracy theorist's dream, doesn't even indict Obama for his real failures...and of course invokes the cold hands of Bob Rubin like a bogeyman at every turn. This is pernicious for a lot of journalistic reasons, but politically it's bad for progressives because conspiracy theories stand in the way of good policy analysis and good activism, replacing them with apathy and fear. Fernholz then lists...

Rolling Stones guitarist Ron Wood was arrested this morning on suspicion of assault. “I can confirm that there was an incident last night and that Ronnie Wood was arrested,” a spokesperson for Wood said in a statement to Rolling Stone. “He has since been released on police bail. We have no further statement to make at this time.” Rolling Stone also verified that the victim of the suspected assault was Wood’s 21-year-old girlfriend Ekaterina Ivanova. “We can confirm that a 62-year-old man from Esher was arrested last night on suspicion of assault in connection with a domestic incident in Claygate...

Has the left finally a reason to be impassioned by a threat to our national security? Michaele and Tareq Salahi seem to have provided that reason. After the Salahis literally crashed a White House State Dinner on Nov. 24, the two demonstrated how vulnerable President Barack Obama could be to outside intruders. And justifiably, it has not only caused some concern with members of Congress, but some of the more outspoken members in the media. On the Fox Business Channel's Nov. 30 "Imus in the Morning" program, host Don Imus conveyed this concern, suggesting it exposed potential weaknesses in the...
