Thus confronting the Democrats about their obstructionism while he’s still got media following him around. Excellent. Insurgent Massachussetts Republican Senate candidate Scott Brown told CNN he expects to be installed quickly as Massachusetts’ next senator should he win the state’s special election Tuesday. Asked about the state of the race, Brown said he’s still campaigning as if he’s running “down 30 points.” But sounding confident, the GOP state senator says he’s made plans to travel to Washington Friday if he’s victorious. This is one of two reasons why the margin of victory will matter. The first, obviously, is that the...

It’s final. Republican Ron Villanueva is the winner of the 21st House District seat after a recount Monday. Villanueva, a city councilman, increased his margin of victory over incumbent Democrat Bobby Mathieson by two votes after all the ballots were rechecked. In the end, Villanueva received 7,674 votes, and Mathieson got 7,658. “I feel elated,” Villanueva said Monday night. “It was exciting to see the process in action.” Mathieson, who asked for the recount, said his camp was aware going in that a different outcome was unlikely with so many ballots cast electronically and the chances of finding mistakes minimal....

Prior to this week-end's games, the BCS computer rankings (as opposed to the polls) ranked Cincinnati as better than Texas. This weekend, Texas and Cincinnati both won (in both cases by a single point, but the margin of victory doesn't matter). But Texas defeated No. 22 Nebraska at home, while Cincinnati beat No. 15 Pittsburgh away. So contrary to ESPN analyst Brad Edwards confident predictions that Texas will improve their standing in the computer rankings more than Cincinnati or TCU, Cincy will gain and Texas will lose ground. Will it matter? No. The polls will outweigh the computer results. And...

ATLANTA – With a slim lead of 620 votes, a former state senator claimed victory in the race for Atlanta's mayor early Wednesday, though the contest was too close to call and could be headed for a recount. Kasim Reed led with 99 percent of precincts reporting, but city councilwoman Mary Norwood told supporters that she was not conceding and was open to a recount. Under Georgia law, the runner-up can petition for one when the margin of victory is less than 1 percent of the total vote. Voters cast 84,076 ballots, so the margin would be within the percentage....

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (BP)--Voting by an unexpectedly large margin, the Swiss overwhelmingly have adopted a national ban on the construction of minarets. Sunday's vote represents a clear victory for the Swiss right and serves notice that the citizens of Switzerland are concerned about the growing influence of Islam in their country. The fact that the referendum passed was news in itself. Nevertheless, the most significant aspect of the vote was the margin of victory. As The Wall Street Journal reported, "The Swiss voted strongly for the ban, with 58% of votes in favor of the initiative and 42% against. Until about...

Conservative Party nominee Doug Hoffman on Wednesday accused ACORN and union interests of stealing the upstate New York special election that he conceded on Nov. 3. Hoffman on Monday "unconceded" after recanvassing of votes across the district showed Democratic Rep. Bill Owens' margin of victory narrowing. Hoffman originally conceded after trailing Owens by 5,335 votes, but further counts showed him trailing by 3,176 votes. A recent count of absentee ballots in three counties showed Hoffman still trailing by 2,951. Until this point Hoffman has said a victory would be a "long shot." Now, Hoffman is accusing liberal groups of unjustly...

Chris Christie has on the New Jersey Governor’s election with a plurality THE POLITICIZER projects. Why we’re calling the race: Corzine is under performing in counties he won in 2005. Bergen County, where any Democrat needs to win by 4-5% to win the state, Corzine is tied with Christie (80% reporting) Corzine has lost Gloucester County, where he won in 2005 by 10% Corzine is under performing in heavily Democratic counties like Hudson, Essex and Camden. Chris Daggett is under performing in heavily Republican counties, allowing Christie a larger margin of victory in GOP counties than Corzine is getting in...
