Many Democratic commentators on the Networks and Cable are expressing surprise that the White House is intent on forcing through Healthcare despite extremely strong feelings against it nationally. (listen to Democratic House Representative Eric Massa describe the current situation in the Democratic Party) More moderate democrats are being pushed hard to vote for the Healthcare bill, despite its painful sanctions against Americans who don’t buy the prescribed insurance, and strong pro-abortion language. These adjurations are being combined with assurances that funding and support will be available for their reelection bids in November. However, sources are indicating that the Pelosi/Obama hard...

Over the last two weeks, the Turkish police have detained and interrogated several dozen retired military officers allegedly involved in plotting an intricate coup d'etat. The government, led by the "moderate Islamist" Justice and Development Party (AKP), has cause for concern. The Turkish military has toppled elected governments four times since 1960. The European Union has made continued civilian rule a key requirement for Turkey's admission to the EU. Though the alleged coup was planned in 2003, the current situation is quite serious. The Turkish press reports that Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Turkish Army Chief of Staff...

Was talking to an old CBS friend, semi-retired. He was one of the Morrow Gang. He said the current situation in DC reminded him of this old Ed Morrow quote. Remembering another old WWII-era quote, I wonder if Obama has "Awakened the sleeping tiger" in the Tea Parties?

The Cursed Subs Of Oz

Australias' submarine fleet seems to be cursed. Normally, two of the six boats are out on patrol, two are conducting training (but available for operations) and two are undergoing maintenance. The reality is that, right now, only one of the Collins class subs is available for operations, while one is conducting training. The other four are undergoing repairs or maintenance. Actually, a string of breakdowns has put three of the subs into a period of extended repairs. That means that the current situation may last for a year or more. All this comes at a bad time for the Australian...

Democrats’ fortunes continue to deteriorate, according to veteran election analyst Charlie Cook: Technically, not enough Democratic seats are in extreme jeopardy for analysts to conclude that the party will lose the chamber. But if Democrats stay on their current downward trajectory, their majority will be history. The retirements that are likely to result from almost any deterioration in the House Democrats’ current situation would reduce their chances of maintaining control to 50-50.
