Police Arrest al-Qaida Suspects in Northern Iraq
BAGHDAD, Dec. 1, 2009 Iraqi police arrested 11 suspected members of the al-Qaida in Iraq terrorist group today during two joint security operations in northern Iraq. Near As Sadiyah, northeast of Baghdad, Iraqi police and U.S. advisors searched several buildings for an alleged al-Qaida in Iraq member believed to have ties to senior leadership. Based on preliminary questioning and evidence discovered on the premises, police identified and arrested the al-Qaida in Iraq member and six suspected criminal accomplices without incident.
