BERLIN (Dow Jones)--General Motors Co. has repaid a bridge loan for its Adam Opel GmbH unit to the German government, Chancellor Angela Merkel said Tuesday, adding the aid had been crucial to keep the German car maker afloat. "The last aid from General Motors for Opel is repaid," Merkel told attendees of a business conference in Berlin, before adding, "I expect... an extensive 'thank you' letter from GM." Merkel defended her government's decision to offer GM the bridge financing, but added,"I would have preferred that the bridge ended differently, that's no secret."
