Lawyers Gone Bad: Gene Cauley Gets 7 Years in Prison
Steven Eugene “Gene” Cauley, an Arkansas lawyer who pleaded guilty to stealing $9.3 million from an escrow fund containing proceeds from a class-action settlement, just was sentenced to 86 months in prison. * * * The money in question came from the settlement of a class-action suit against Bisys Group that was supposed to be held in a client’s account by Cauley’s firm.
